As a Father I agree entirely, my wife got the dirty end of the stick. No matter how much I tried to support her, the rest of the world kept beating her down. Now, I fully admit I didn’t do a great job I was young and stupid, but I was aware of the problems she was going through and tried to give her the support she needed. We had some advantages that others don’t, grandparents within easy driving distance who were working at most part-time, good friends to trade childcare with, a financial position that let us have her be a stay at home mom for a few years when our kids were young.

But she is still paying the cost for that time away from the workforce. She shouldn’t be, she is easily worth as much salary as I am, I can say this because we are in nearly the same industry, almost the same position. Even with her time off, she is as good or better in her work as I am, yet I still make 8–10% more than she does. It is wrong that I make more than she does. If anything she should be making 10% more than I do, her skills are more relevant to today’s market than mine are, but I make more money because I haven’t had that gap in my resume.
