It was evident to me back in 2008 that Facebook was a trainwreck. They were overestimating their real users by at least an order of magnitude and couldn’t control the spam even at the much lower levels of a decade ago. I stopped interacting with the platform at all around then, only opening it when the family told me that there was a post that I had to see. But I have watched my older relatives go down the conspiracy theory rabbit hole provided by Facebook and can’t figure out an answer that doesn’t include destroying the platform as it currently exists.
