It’s the Economy

“It’s the economy stupid,” we hear that quite a bit in the United States when an election rolls around. Especially a Presidential election. I want to talk for a minute about this magic thing we call the economy. No, I’m not an economist, historian or billionaire. I don’t even have a Ph.D. what I am is an ordinary person who has lived for over fifty years, been interested in history for about forty-five of those years, reads as much as I can about a wide range of topics. Any of the statements that follow from my experience and reading, it’s not peer-reviewed or well researched. This entire article is my personal opinion talking, because well I trust myself more than I believe in anyone else, and frankly our politicians are messing up.

What is the economy? Well in simple terms it’s everyone buying and selling, period. That’s it, whether you buy a widget or work an hour for a wage that’s the economy. The problem with looking at it at this level is that there are a vast number of these events minute of every day. Tracking this level of detail is nearly impossible. Because it is almost impossible some people who study these transactions have come up with mathematical equations to predict what the mass of sales have done and are going to do.
