No kidding! I was a Republican until the middle of the 1990s, by then the direction of the party made me start calling myself ‘Independent.’ Because I didn’t trust Bill Clinton at all, but looking back he was a corrupt bastard, but at least he seems to have stayed purchased when someone bought him. But I couldn’t see Bush jr. as president; then he fulfilled every bad feeling I had about him in the election. He was a disaster, all the more so because he set us up with precedents that make quite a bit of the borderline un-Constitutional crap that Trump and Obama have pulled. But I look a decade or so farther back to Gingrich for the real damage of having an utterly divisive Congress. He set the stage for using the majority party in Congress as a bludgeon to beat on the other party. Between Gingrich and Bush jr. they set up the kind of government by cudgel and lie that we have today.
