Shuffling Deck Chairs
The administration and Republican members of Congress seem to think that the US can ignore the rest of the world. Just go it alone, we don’t need the rest of the world. This attitude is clear from the administration’s updated immigration policy, trade war, and actions toward allies. They are not just acting isolationist, but acting as if the rest of the world doesn’t matter. Frankly, we haven’t had an administration and party that ignored the rest of the world as much as Trump and his Republican party does since the early eighteen hundreds.
What is the impact on the US Economy? It is not doing it any good. Our economy is intertwined with the economy of the world. Detangling it and making the US self-sufficient would be a long and painful process. It would cause disruptions over the entire economy, and realistically, it would make the Great Depression look like a minor slump in the economy. It wouldn’t do the rest of the world any good either, but they would still have THE REST OF THE WORLD as trading partners. The US would be internal only, no electronics, no high-tech network equipment, few if any machine tools, no Appliances as far as I know, oh hell, most of the stock of most of the stores are manufactured elsewhere.
