Daniel Cox sat in his corner office on the seventy-fifth floor of the Lewis Archology block staring at the screen in disbelief.

His heart feeling like it was going to burst this couldn’t be happening, the government insured against things like this. He had over seventy million dollars in that brokerage account. They couldn’t just close down, that was almost three-quarters of his families money.

His assistant Caleb stuck zie head in the door, “Mr. Cox, did you hear about the bank and brokerage failures they are announcing on the news? It looks like I got off easy; only one of my accounts was in an affected bank. I got lucky, anyway, sent the numbers you wanted for next quarters projections just now, so I’m out of here. Have a good evening!”

Daniel looked at the now closed door. “Got lucky, well I guess I didn’t.”

How the hell am I going to deal with this? I have to keep up the front if Jen and I are ever going to get promoted to senatorial class. The financial disaster would kill his wife and kids. They were so close to getting the status of being an associate to one of the ruling families. He looked off into the distance over the Metroplex, not caring about the quarterly projections or anything that had been so important before.

Getting a faraway look, he leaned forward, switching off the recording devices…
