The end of the Republic

As a historian, even an amateur historian, I see trends of history and what I see now scares the crap out of me. Future historians are likely to mark 2016–2020 as the end of the Republican era of the United States of America. That is Republican as a form of government, not as a political party. Just as the Romans and Greeks before us, we had a run at having representative government and decided it was too damn much trouble.
